Workplace Violence Prevention: Guideline for the Employer

This session covers steps to prepare employees and managers to respond appropriately to an active shooter incident. It covers concepts endorsed by the US Department of Homeland Security and what to expect when law enforcement responds.

Security Blunders: Show and Tell

Are your institution’s facilities safe and secure? Don’t put your accountholders, employees, and financial assets at risk! Assessing the risks involved with the operation of a financial institution is a major concern of every CEO, COO, and security officer. In this session, we use actual examples showing situations that make financial institutions targets for criminal attacks. We will offer a look at your financial institution’s facilities as a visitor would see them, both during operating hours and after hours. You may be surprised at what you see!

National Update

Security issues and priorities change on a daily basis, requiring the security manager to remain topically informed, assess the impact of those changes and adjust the security model for the entire institution. Crime trends and the evolution of critical legal issues should be as important as media headlines to the Board of Directors, who relies upon the security manager to stay topically current, in order to make informed decisions and reports to the Board of Directors. This segment contains “briefing” information about new and emerging events that will likely affect the security function.

Interviewing Techniques for the Security Officer

Has your institution been a victim of robbery, internal fraud, or some other crime? Those involved are your colleagues and that doesn't make the interview process any easier. Learn valuable tips on how to interview employees who may be witnesses to or suspects in crimes involving your institution. Understand the basic dos and don’ts that are often overlooked by the untrained interviewer. Nonverbal communication is an important aspect of this briefing. Understand why verbal responses are often an insignificant part of the questioning process.

Observation vs. Perception

This is an awareness session to improve your observation skills. What you see is not always what your brain tells you, you see. You will get a better understanding of ways to improve your crime prevention efforts by absorbing and interpreting what's going on around you and why differences in opinions and descriptions can occur from several observers after all have seen the same incident.

SEMINAR PRESENTERS

Barry Thompson is a nationally recognized speaker, consultant, and former banker, with nearly 40 years of service to the financial institution industry. Barry’s financial services career spanned 22 years before he “retired” to establish Thompson Consulting Group, LLC, his consulting firm that assists financial institutions in competing more effectively by providing services specifically targeted to risk management and security. PRESENTING VIRTUALLY.

Branch Walton is a well-know speaker and author on workplace violence, executive protection, identity theft, school safety and other security topics with more than 40 years of experience in federal law enforcement, private security and instruction.  Branch’s security experience began with a 21-year career in the US Secret Service.  Prior to his USSS service, Walton was a commissioned officer in the US Marine Corps and a special agent with the Office of Naval Intelligence.  PRESENTING IN-PERSON.
