ABOUT THE EVENT

The SDBA 2021 State Legislative Day is your opportunity to stay up-to-date on both state and federal legislation which could affect the banking industry and make sure our industry is heard. The day will conclude with a “call to action” where participants will be asked to connect virtually with their respective state legislators.

1:15 p.m. Washington Update

  • U.S. Senator Mike Rounds, Washington, D.C.
    Sen. Mike Rounds, who serves on the Senate Banking Committee, will provide an update on relevant banking issues in Washington, D.C.

1:45 p.m. Woodward on Washington: An Economic and Political Outlook

  • Joan Woodward, President, Travelers Institute, and Executive Vice President, Public Policy, Travelers
    What will historically high unemployment rates coupled with the worst economic slowdown the U.S. has ever seen mean for the economic outlook in 2021? And, what will President-Elect Biden’s policy agenda look like for the country going forward? How much new spending will Washington enact, and how high might our taxes be raised to pay for it? Joan Woodward will share her insights on the economic outlook and Washington policy issues. Prior to working for Travelers and Goldman Sachs, Woodward worked on Capitol Hill for 12 years as deputy chief of staff for the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. She also was the chief economist for the Senate Governmental Affairs and U.S. House Budget committees.

    It may not be cocktails (liquid or shrimp) with our legislators, but we’d still like to thank our state legislative partners and update them on pertinent banking issues. During this short session, participants will be encouraged to collectively reach out to their respective legislators with a message of thanks for their time and commitment to the banking industry.
