WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2019

7:30–8:00 a.m.        Registration & Continental Breakfast

8:00–8:30 a.m.        Welcome/Introductions/Icebreaker

8:30–9:30 a.m.        Lead Simply - Holly Hoffman, Professional Speaker & Author, Sioux Falls

Leadership is not complex. Leadership at its core is simple, but not always easy. A simple leadership framework consists of three words: model, connect and involve. True leadership is not just words, it’s action. We must model the behavior we want to see, connect with the people you lead and involve them as much as possible. Holly Hoffman was the last remaining member of the Espada Tribe and the last woman standing on Season 21 of CBS’ hit reality show “Survivor Nicaragua.” Author of “Your Winner Within” and “Write Yourself a Note,” Hoffman acknowledges that life is made up of challenges, and we are oftentimes faced with situations that seem insurmountable. But within each of us is an ability to focus our thoughts, emotions and energy to succeed—if only we have the knowledge, tools and discipline to do so.

9:30–10:15 a.m.      Civics 101 - Curt Everson, President, South Dakota Bankers Association, Pierre

Policymakers make decisions every day that affect the banking industry. That’s why it’s important that they hear your voice. One objective of the SDBA’s emerging leaders efforts is to promote involvement and advocacy at the local, state and federal levels. As the president of the SDBA, Curt Everson has been responsible for the Association’s government relations activities since 2002. Everson will talk about the impact that emerging bank leaders can have on advocacy and how and where they can get involved. He will explain the process of legislation, how to develop relationships with local lawmakers, and state versus national advocacy. Prior to working for the SDBA, Everson worked for the State of South Dakota including leading the Bureau of Finance and Management for seven years.

10:15–10:30 a.m.    Break

10:30–11:30 a.m.    Say What? - Dusty Pinske, Business Banking Relationship Manager, First Interstate Bank, Rapid City

Stop talking and start connecting. It’s not what you say…it’s what they leave with! Dusty Pinske is a business banking relationship manager with First Interstate Bank in Rapid City. She has held many positions with First Interstate Bank, but her passion for building successful teams and inspiring others has been integral to her successful banking career. Pinske is happily married and the proud mother of a daughter and son, both college students.

11:30–12:30 p.m.   DISC: The Universal Language of Observable Behavior - Julie Noble, SHRM-PC, PHR, Director of Human Resources, Cain Ellsworth & Company, Sioux Falls, SD

DISC is the universal language of observable human behavior. Every day, we live and work in a laboratory where we have the unique opportunity to learn about people. In this session, we will introduce you to DISC. By understanding the DISC language, you will be able to understand your behavioral style, recognize the behavioral styles of others, and adapt and blend your style for greater, more effective relationships and communication. Julie Noble’s background encompasses more than 20 years of progressive human resources experience serving in various HR roles including recruitment, benefits administration, HR management and HR consulting. Noble has a passion for providing HR solutions whether that be to her internal employees or the clients with whom she works.

12:30–1:15 p.m.      Lunch & Overview of SDBA Opportunities

1:15–2:00 p.m.        Speed Networking

2:00–3:00 p.m.        Culture Wars–Episode IV: A New Hope - Dr. Rachel MK Headley, CEO, Rose Group International, Spearfish

When we look at where we want to dedicate our time and energy at work, we are focusing on the culture more and more. For many of us, it seems as if we are left to deal with too much drama, feeling stuck and sometimes with little connection to the place or the people. This session will equip you with the perspective and tools to grow the culture you want in the workplace and challenge you to take on the internal experience in your organization as you continue your leadership rise. Dr. Rachel MK Headley works with businesses where “just fine” isn’t good enough. She guides teams to be engaged, committed and have each other’s backs, while growing profitability through reduced costs and increased revenue. Her iX Leadership framework gives leaders hope that they can create an environment where we look forward going to work.

3:00–3:15 p.m.        Break

3:15–4:15 p.m.        What Makes a Leader - Bob Sutton, President & CEO, Avera Health, Sioux Falls

Leadership is not easy. It is far more complex than directing people and hoping for results. An important part of leading is knowing what it means to follow. And, of course, being an effective leader requires building trust through genuine relationships. A South Dakota native, Bob Sutton serves as president and CEO for Avera Health in Sioux Falls. He previously spent 25 years in Pierre serving as an association executive and lobbyist for county government, the energy industry and the financial services industry. Sutton started with Avera Health after serving as the president of the South Dakota Community Foundation, where he worked for 10 years to connect philanthropic South Dakotans with the organizations and causes making a difference in our state.
