ABOUT THIS EVENT

The SDBA State Legislative Day on Feb. 14, 2024, at the Ramkota Hotel & Conference Center in Pierre, is your opportunity to stay up to date on both state and federal legislation which could affect the banking industry. This is your exclusive opportunity to actively participate in shaping the future of banking in our state. This gathering promises a day of insightful conversations, networking, and direct engagement with key policymakers.

The day will include an SDBA Legislative Committee meeting, lunch with comments from Governor Kristi Noem (invited), a fireside chat with Senator Mike Rounds (confirmed) and Senator John Thune (invited), an SDBA update, featured speaker V.J. Smith, the chance to visit with state legislators at the State Capitol, and an evening reception with state legislators and constitutional officers.

All events will be held at the Ramkota Hotel & Conference Center at 920 W. Sioux Ave. in Pierre. All times are Central Standard Time.

8:00–10:30 a.m. -  Hosted Breakfast for Emerging Leaders | Here’s your chance to connect with your Emerging Leader colleagues over a great cup of coffee and your favorite breakfast. Present your voucher (sent electronically to Emerging Leader registrants) and relax and network at the Branding Iron Bistro, 420 W Sioux Ave.

10:00 a.m. - Registration Opens

10:30 a.m. - Legislative Committee Meeting

12:00 p.m. - Luncheon | Governor’s Address – (Governor Kristi Noem, invited)

1:00 p.m. -  Fireside Chat w/ Senator Mike Rounds (confirmed), Senator John Thune (invited) | Karl Adam, SDBA President, will lead a conversation which will dive deep into the heartbeat of the banking worlds as they unpack critical issues facing the banking industry.

1:45 p.m. - ABA Policy Update (virtual) | Join us for an exclusive session presented by the American Bankers Association, offering a comprehensive update on the ever-evolving federal banking policies. In this session, ABA policy experts will dissect the latest regulatory changes, legislative updates, and key policy shifts impacting the banking sector.

2:00 p.m. -  Simple Choices, Big Rewards,  V.J. Smith, Speaker and Author, Brookings, SD | We are judged by the choices we make. In our personal lives and in our business lives, we are faced with simple choices on how we interact with the people around us. This talk offers reflection time on situations we face each day. The end game is to try and get better in our relationships. Isn't that what we all want - just trying to get better?

3:15 p.m. - Visit with Legislators at State Capitol | Transportation on your own to the State Capitol located at 500 East Capitol Avenue.

4:30 p.m. - Emerging Leader Happy Hour | Connect, collaborate and cultivate relationships with fellow emerging leaders in a relaxed setting. Join SDBA staff and other emerging leaders in the Ramkota lounge for a chance to network prior to the legislative reception at 5:30.

5:30 p.m. - Reception with Legislators and Constitutional Officers
