Established in 1982, the South Dakota Bankers Foundation funds the Business Plan Competition and high school and post secondary scholarships in South Dakota. The Foundation also provides financial support for a Chair in Banking at the University of South Dakota School of Business in Vermillion. Contributions to the Foundation are fully tax deductible.

The South Dakota Bankers Foundation has several opportunities for SD students.

For the past 25 years, the South Dakota Bankers Foundation, in conjunction with the SD Governor’s Office of Economic Development, has sponsored a Business Plan Competition. Six finalists will be chosen to travel to Pierre to present their oral plan before a panel of judges on February 8, 2017. Winners will be announced that evening at a banquet attended by state legislators, Governor Daugaard, other state officials and bankers. Students, advisers and parents are invited to attend the event and it is customary that the Governor presents the Business Plan Competition awards.

The second opportunity for high school students is a scholarship program. In 2017, $180,000 in scholarship monies will be awarded to graduating high school seniors through the Foundation and your local banks. We encourage you to ask your local banks if they participate in this program. Applicants must also plan to attend an accredited South Dakota college, university, vocational technical school, or community college. Additional eligibility requirements may be required by the sponsoring bank. For more information, visit the College scholarships webpage.

Once again, contact your local banks to see if they participate in this program.
